DRILL
Intercepting from Side Trio
  • Purpose

  • Groups of 3 each have a ball and require 1/6 of the court. Trio elect two attackers (A & B) who stand 5m apart, and defender (C) who is 2m from the path between (A & B).
  • (A & B) pass the ball back-and-forth. (C) has up to 5 passes to attempt an intercept.
    (C) must disguise their movement until the last possible second
(A / B) must catch while stationary - stepping or jumping to catch is disallowed
  • If (C) intercepts, return ball to (A / B), quickly return to starting position and restart
    (C) scores 1 point per intercept
  • If (A / B) read (C)'s intentions, they can:-
    Throw higher or harder.
Throw a fake pass, then a lob pass. Remember, 3 second rule applies
Optional penalty: If (C) fakes an interception and (A / B) throw a lob pass, (C) scores 1 bonus point.
  • Rotate roles after 1 minute and try to beat the score
  • Optionally tweak the distance to make passes longer, in which case (C) will need to start further back.
