DRILL
Goal Third (Outer) Penalty Pass
  • Purpose
Receiving a penalty pass enables you to run set plays to take advantage of the spare player. This particular strategy is used when you've received a penalty nearer to the transverse line than the post. Situations where an opposition (circle defender / feeder) is penalised are both covered.

  • Choose teams and setup as per the diagram.
  • When a circle defender penalized is nearer the transverse line:-
[WA/C] take the pass, the other stands non-ballside on the arc, well away from the goalies
Goalies stand together and execute (as late as possible) a ball-side screen.
Aim for 1 pass to shoot, however if the receiving goalie is beyond their comfort zone, look for a pass to the other goalie or a double play with a feeder
  • When opposition [WD/C] penalised:-
Same setup as when circle defender penalised
Goalie systems determine who the primary target will be, the second goalie makes a backup lead.
Given both circle defenders are in-play, the non-passer of [WD/C] makes a complimentary lead in a wide passing lane in case both are covered.
  • After passing the feeder should run to the circle edge to provide an outlet for a double play with a goalie.
